Finished.

All 3 of my team's big spring events are finished. It is such a relief to have those not hang over our heads any more and to be able to spend some time focusing on other things. I left for Knoxville around noon on Saturday, spent a couple hours driving there, about 3 hours doing flower arrangements and corsages for all our honorees (50 arrangements and 50 corsages!), spent the night at camp (convinced that the staff cabin might be haunted) then had our event on Sunday at 1pm.

Rant: 12 girls that did not RSVP for this event came anyway. So that's 12 girls that we did not plan for...plus mom, dad, grandparents, siblings, etc. It adds to the event food...space...seating...not to mention that we don't have that many extra flower arrangements,  certificates,  corsages, etc. We always make extras - this year we had 7 extras - but you just can plan if folks don't RSVP. We had to scramble to make up arrangements from other decor like flowers from the registration tablem. It was nuts but we made it...Is RSVP'ing a lost art??

Our event ended at 3...we cleaned up and broke down decor and hauled ourselves downtown to work a second event for our top cookie sellers which lasted until 6:30. I rolled into home about 8pm. Another long weekend but glad it was all a success. I get this Saturday off then I will go work with a troop of older girls on the last Saturday of the month then I don't have to work another weekend until our big camp event in mid-june. Yay!  I am super thankful for an awesome team that consistently pulls of fantastic events no matter how stressful it is along the way!

Weekend Perfection

We seriously could not have asked for a better weekend this past weekend. The weather was so perfect and spring-like, my mom was here, we stayed outside as much as we could and I got a TON of stuff done around the house.

My weekend started early with some really good news. I got a promotion of sorts at work which means my role will be transitioning over the next few months. Instead of working primarily with volunteers, I will be filling a new position called a Teen Programs Coordinator. I will supervise 3 other staff members who work specifically with doing programming to recruit and retain older girls. I am crazy excited about it; I hope that it means I will get to work with girls a little more than I do and we will be working with travel and events as well so I think it will be a great change. There is still a lot of unknowns with the role so I am just telling myself to be flexible and enjoy it!

I worked a LOT last week so I took Friday afternoon off. Cleaned up a tiny bit in the house but saved all the clothes folding for my mom (the lady loves to fold clothes. What can I say!?). Mom came and we ran some errands and rented a movie. Saturday morning we met J and S and went for a walk on the Riverwalk, ate lunch at our favorite little Mexican joint on their patio, then bought and planted some flowers in the yard. Mom folded the giant mountain of clean laundry while I steam cleaned carpets. All in all, a super productive Saturday. Sunday we went to church, had lunch, then mom headed south to see my sister. Chad and I got the lawnmower started and I mowed the front and back yards while he picked up sticks and limbs. I also mowed the neighbors back yard which was an obstacle course of fun (no seriously, I like the challenge!). Chad had to work Saturday and Sunday so I cleaned carpets again and prepped lunches for this week Sunday night.

We spent as much time outside as we could – I even ended up with a little forehead sunburn and farmers tan! – and the weather was perfection. Gotta remember to keep watering everything we planted so I have prettiness all summer long!

Happy Dress Up at Work Day!

Chad reports that the job is going well (of course, 2 days in doesn't make it a great assessment of what it could be but it is a great start!). I am still not sleeping well - feels weird not having him where he is supposed to be. I am having more and more sympathy for couples who experience career related deployment of any kind...it sorta stinks.

Today is Halloween and our office was full of contagious fun. There was a purple skittle, a gypsy, a solider, Carmen SanDiego, a femme fatale, a paper doll, Hermoine Grainger, half the cast from the movie "Up" (real dogs included), and my Mrs. Potato Head. Yeah. Rocked that.

Home early today to make a batch of cinnamon rolls for a rehearsal dinner on Friday. Excited about what the weekend will hold. Chad does have to work through Friday night but is off Saturday and Sunday - thankfully to be my date to our friend's wedding! Fun! Uncle J and I have a bet going about whether or not Chad will dance with me at the reception. He has literally never danced with me and I don't think he is about to start. So, my bet is that he won't. J bets that he will. I am going to get a mani and pedi out of this. Woohoo!

Reporting in.

Busy weekend ahead. And week after that.

Spending the day at camp again tomorrow. And hoping for less drama than last time. However, I will be guding a large group of GS Daisies (K5 and 1st graders) and their moms through their first camp experience so here's hoping it goes really, really well!

Sunday I will spend the entire afternoon at work for a meeting that we call a summit. It is a larger training/get together for a couple of combined areas and I am hoping we get a lot accomplished/learned that day too. Then working Monday night and Tuesday night too...I will be thrilled to see Wednesday come and be able to spend time with some of my favorite people (my sweet husband and our small group).

Running on empty feeling this weekend. Hoping a day at camp in the beautiful outdoors will recharge my batteries. I even get to play with a barn full of horses at the end of the day so I am looking forward to that bit...

Good weekend.

It has been and is going to be a great weekend!

I got off work at a normal time yesterday, came home, hung out with my dude and was in bed by 10pm (good stuff already!). This morning, we slept in and I lazily got up and showered in time to head to a baby sprinkle for a sweet friend in our small group. We went to a fabulous local restaurant - Foodworks - and had lunch and she opened sweet girly gifts (her first was a boy! She deserves some bows and pink!).

This afternoon, I came home to Chad working on our toilet (we have a leaking one in the hall bathroom) but no real plans for the rest of the day. Tomorrow we have church, lunch then TICKETS TO SEE HUNGER GAMES. Can you tell that I am excited? Fun day!

I love weekends when I don't work - unlike the entire month of April when I have to work every weekend. Le sigh.

it's been a while.

It has been a good few weeks since Chad has been out on a late night fire so I guess we were due one. I've heard we are expecting rain in the next few days so that would be nice to keep it from happening again. I guess it wasn't so bad since I had to work out of town last night too. Either way, he was out late and gone again early this morning so someone I know is gonna sleep good tonight!

Livin' for the weekend, even though I have to work ALL DAY Saturday. Cookie training in the morning and then headed down to GA to do a training. But, it is a fun training to do so it should go by quickly. So maybe it would be more accurate to say that I am living for Sunday?

beautiful!

This weather we are having is incredible! Though it is a bit chilly in the mornings, we've usually stripped down a layer or two by the afternoon. Currently, I am writing from my comfy chair on the front porch enjoying some serious Vitamin D soaking up and a nice breeze.

Slept in this morning until a wonderful 8:30! Ate bad food for lunch but then walked it off with a tour of the Forrest Hills cemetery near our house. It is one of Chattanooga's oldest cemeteries and is full of interesting, historic figures from Chattanooga's past. A couple of times per year they have actors/decendants who will tell you about the history of the folks buried there. Some of them are really related and some of them do a great job of playing the part. It was informative and fun. I know - I am really turning into my mother when I enjoy a good tour of the cemetery!!

Thinking about going to a movie tonight with a birthday gift certificate. Neither of us will have to work this weekend thanks to a good schedule on my part and a little rain on his part so it will be lovely! (though we did commit ourselves to filling in at kids church so we will do that tomorrow too!)
